a flash of teeth a show of joy a grinning girl a nervous boy a ringing laugh a joke well told a "please" and "thanks" a smile - gold Just a happy little poem that I wrote a while back. Yellow roses symbolize joy and friendship, and with the picture being so pretty I just couldn't resist adding it to my post.

Stars strewn across grains of frozen glass A twinkling mirror in the sky Never before had I beheld with my gaze Stars that could and would die I looked up and I saw an old man; spry Leaping and dancing underneath the night sky Swinging towards the sea and back I thought him a fool, I will not lie However, as I drew closer and saw Him tiredly leaning down to pick up a star I knew something was not as I thought Something was not as I had seen from afar So I walked on and watched This old man leaning and swinging And I finally, finally noticed How the sea appeared to be singing He was picking up each star near him And flinging them back to the sea Slowly moving along as he did this For what reason, I could not see Curious, I walked closer to this gentleman Who gave such a strange task his all “Why are you throwing starfish, sir? Are you answering the sea’s roaring call?” “Aye, little lass,” he replied with a grin “I have a feeling that she misses her stars And the sky seems to be mocking her tonight With a show of even the light of Mars.” Still, even though he gave me a reason, I couldn’t fathom why he felt obligated The sun was almost scheduled to wake And soon by children tonight’s stars would be rated I told him so, but he wasn’t at all mad He said, “I’m doing it because I want to.” Baffled was I, to hear such a reply There were many a star, and the air tonight was cold too Trying to get him to mind his health I said, “Go back inside sir! I’ll even help.” Finally, with a sigh, he seemed to think about it But to my surprise, he reached for some kelp Under the green was a beautiful sight Of a bright red star, a shining jewel In awe I stood with this strange old man Even though the wind was very cool “So you see the beauty, lass?” The man gave me a fatherly smile “This is why I walk this sand and help These stars stretched mile upon mile. It I don’t help, who will? You youngsters are all so busy; I wouldn’t want to be a bother.” His gentle eyes told me he didn’t mind; really. But I couldn’t help but wonder If more people would change anything After all, the stars were uncountable; To save them all would take the help of a king As if hearing what I was thinking The old man put a warm hand on mine And said the words that I’ll never forget Words of a wise man who is one of a kind “I know it doesn’t do much, My work by this raging sea But come morning, these stars will burn Surely they would accept the help of little old me? It may not make a big change, Maybe not even a splash in the water But if I do just a little bit, If I can help and never falter Maybe, just maybe, it’ll make a difference.” With those words he swung the red sun The little burst of light whose life he’d save “It sure made a difference to that one.” I hope that this poem will give you guys something to think about! As the title states, this poem is based off of "The Starfish Story" by Loren Eiseley. Go check it out! It's a really great piece of work, though I'm not entirely sure where you can find the original. It seems to have sprouted wings of its own and now has various versions floating around (including mine :D).
