HARRY POTTER
Harry Potter is an equally wonderful fantasy series written by J. K. Rowling, and since I am the Potterhead that I am, I'm sure that I've mentioned it at least once. As such, I figured that I might as well include it here as well, since though there is no "Cliffs of Insanity" in Harry Potter, there is a fabulous castle called Hogwarts (pictured on left) and various other places including a magical shopping center called "Diagon Alley" and a dangerous forest named, you called it, "The Forbidden Forest". There is a great cast of characters as well, including a hero who, like Westely, will do everything that he can for those he cares about. Because of this, I am very nearly positive that it you read The Princess Bride and by some miracle have not yet read Harry Potter, I'm sure that you will enjoy it. And if you actually read all of this, thank you! |
LORD OF THE RINGS
Hobbits, one of the many races in The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien, live in Hobbit-holes, also called Smials, like the one pictured on the right. I admittedly haven't read the books, though I do plan on reading them as soon as I get through the mountain of other books that I need to finish. However, I have watched the movies (I know, going against the "don't watch the movie until you read the book" rule) and they were fantastic. Adventure, friendship, journeys, magic, and epic fights are all contained within this three-volume story, be it the books or the movies. And, since all of those things are (in some way, shape or form) also in The Princess Bride, I figured that it'd make a good recommendation. It's a classic as well, so if that's your thing, you'll definitely want to read all of these books. |
